Narrative Film Course

It’s story time

This course is dedicated to students interested in how a strong story and character development is key to producing a good movie. The hyper-focused, fast-paced curriculum means students build a strong foundation in many of these disciplines. During the session, among other things, the team will learn:

  •  Cinematography
  •  Post Production
  •  Screenwriting
  •  Visual Storytelling

All movies will be professionally shot either on a GH4 or leading cinema camera the RED Scarlet. All projects will be shot with the hope of entering into film festivals, not only in Marbella, but also around the world.

As part of the course, students will create an account with www.withoutabox.com. This will allow them to enter their film into festivals in the future in a few easy steps. All films will be entered into festivals at the end of the course, it is then their job to follow them up and reply to any film festival that may have questions about the film or further interest.

Course outline

What is the course about?

Students will learn about all the stages of production from the pre-production, production & post-production. They will learn the conventions of constructing an effective narrative, the meanings and uses of different shots and camera movements and how to get the best from their subject. They will also learn how to use digital video cameras and record sound. The team will capture and edit the projects using the professional editing application Final Cut.

What level is the course and do they need any particular skills?

This is a beginner’s course. Students should be computer literate at a basic level. Please note that you will be using Apple Macs. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information.
